Pilates

Your sessions

Pilates focuses on strengthening and improving the elements of your physicality that allow your body to function at its best in everyday life – in particular your posture, your breathing, and your core muscles.

Similar to things like yoga, Pilates can be great if you’re new to exercise or recovering from an injury as it doesn’t put too much pressure on your joints. It’s a very low-impact activity involving small, controlled movements that tone and lengthen your muscles at a gentle but steady pace, as well as improving your balance and flexibility.

Although we can find ways to incorporate Pilates into your one-to-one support – for example by working some of the techniques into your physical training sessions – generally we do our Pilates through small, quiet group sessions. So we’ll find two or three other Unlock Fitness clients with similar goals and levels of fitness to you, so the pace and content of the sessions can be as tailored as possible. Then together we’ll work out the best time for the sessions to suit the group.

Your instructors

Trisha Duffy

Trish has been teaching group exercise classes in everything from step aerobics and spinning to aqua fit for 26 years, although her focus now is on Pilates. She loves to get people moving and watch how staying active helps them feel better about life and about themselves, as well as growing in confidence and making new friends. Her classes have also helped people struggling with things like back pain, scoliosis, and osteoarthritis.

Becky Dean

Becky’s been working as a personal trainer and Pilates instructor for almost 16 years, with a particular focus on pre- and post-natal health. She’s also run almost every kind of fitness class under the sun in her time, from Zumba and dance aerobics to spinning, body pump, and circuit training. She loves helping people find the joy in exercising, learning what motivates and interests them and seeing them get to a point where they actually enjoy their workouts.
